I was fortunate to visit Cuba for eight days in January, 2016 with a group of talented photographers. We also worked with young adults in the local community on some basic photography skills as a way to give back while there.
While old cars and urban scenes command the most attention while visiting Cuba, the warmth and generosity of the people will always be what I remember from my brief time there. So many people greeted us on the streets of Havana to welcome us into their country and even into their homes. Their daily struggle is real, and their spirit of kindness, curiosity, and passion drives them everyday.
I am anxious to see what happens over the next few years as the country opens up to more American visitors, and I hope they can maintain their sense of normalcy in the face of great change.
